The Appointment Process

  • Before being seen by a physician or nurse practitioner, students are evaluated by a nurse.
  • Nursing visits can be made as early as 8:00 am until 4:45 pm, Monday through Friday. (Hours may vary during summer and school breaks)
  • We request that initial nurse visits for birth control be made between 9 am -3 pm whenever possible because they require additional time.
  • The nursing staff uses "standing orders" and can often begin treatment which is why for many students, medical appointments are not necessary.
  • Most appointments are not initially scheduled over the telephone. Medical appointments are scheduled according to the urgency of the problem.
  • Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled by telephone (607.777.2221).
  • Appointments may be made by telephone after the initial visit if there is no improvement in symptoms or when the student has been instructed to call for a follow up appointment.
  • Appointments may also made by telephone in cases where the student has been referred after evaluation by a counselor in the University Counseling Center or the athletic trainer.
